Friends of Brown County State Park Projects
The Friends of Brown County State Park, formed in September 1998, is a non-profit
organization of volunteers devoted to the support and preservation of Brown County
State Park.
Throughout the year we work with Brown County State Park staff to conserve our
natural resources, educate the public about the park and park related issues, and
sponsor/support natural interpretive activities and scientific research. The following
is a sampling of the projects, events and activities that we've been involved
with since 1998:
Major Accomplishments
- Constructed Friends Easy Access Trail
- Completed grant-funded preservation of Abe Martin radio show portfolio
- Installed viewing/fishing dock at Lake Ogle
- Funded taxidermy mounts of native Indiana birds for the Nature Center
- Restored original West Gate log building
- Purchased new sound system for Nature Center amphitheater
- Constructed new horseshoe pits
- Donated binoculars and spotting scope for hikes guided by Nature Center staff
- Bus Tour Guide Service in conjunction with Convention & Visitor's Bureau
- Converted old Park Office cabin to living quarters and research center
- Purchased laptop, LCD projector, 1Terabyte hard drive for Nature Center

- Gather GPS data for new trail guide
- Sponsor SAG stop at the Annual Brown County Breakdown Mountain Bike Ride
